This paper addresses the epistemological dimension of regional integration
and regionalism in Latin America, focusing on the idea of autonomy and on the
contributions that Social Sciences bring to this debate. It is based on the approach
of Jaime Preciado, who proposes an articulation between critical geopolitics and
decoloniality to reflect on the obstacles and potentialities of an autonomous Latin
American integration in the contemporary world order. The paper concludes
with the need to include the social and epistemological dimensions to enhance
the traditional view of autonomy as an eminently state matter, considering Latin
America as its locus of enunciation.
