A decade after the emergence of postliberal regionalism, we witness the dismantling of UNASUR and the weakening of ALBA. Based on Latin American literature on politicization in regional integration processes, this paper performs a three-stage analysis, phases of politicization, depolitization and (re)politicization, to examine the dynamics of ALBA and UNASUR, emphasizing two elements: the common interests of governments and their willingness to build institutional schemes. The paper attempts to verify whether postliberal schemes are (re)politicized in such a precarious way that they risk entering the usual cycle of erosion of Latin American regional initiatives.
