In this article four regional integration processes of developing countries are comparatively analyzed: Andean Community (CAN), Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), Southern African Development Community (SADC) and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It is argued that regional negotiations are based on the consolidation of agendas, for which the actors’ dominant strategy is cooperation. Such processes occur through coordination games, with a view to defining a “point of coordination” between the preferences of the member states of the regional agreements. The conformation of regional agreements regarding electric energy is discussed in the four cases, aiming to demonstrate
that the preferences of the Member States end up establishing different formats in relation to regional integration and state regulation. Its central object is regional integration and its variations. The electric energy theme is only an empirical reference for the analysis on screen.
