The present paper analyzes the influence of the Military-Industrial Complex on the decisionmaking
of the US policymakers and the consequent increase in the military budget in the
period that covers the beginning of the 21st century, from the terrorist attacks of September
11. In addition, we intend to discuss the legitimacy of the securitization of defense and the
consequent adoption of a constantly militarized foreign policy justified by the global war
on terror, which is subsidized by the work developed by some specific think-tanks that are
financed by the Military-Industrial Complex, being disseminated the securitization ideas
through the main governmental stakeholder’s speeches.
