This article addresses the financialization of agriculture and land grabbing in Brazil from
the perspective of International Political Economy. Given that Brazil attracts the recent
market for natural goods due to its resources, land and agrarian orientation, the research
investigates how the financialization of the countryside and the phenomenon of transnational
land acquisition affect the Brazilian territory. The article concludes that the intensification
of these events is part of the logic of the transnational order of financialized capital, and
therefore contributes to the externalization of the country’s decision-making, deepens its
condition of dependence and undermines its land governance.
