This article aims to analyze how The New York Times, one of the most important American
stakeholders in public opinion, published some news related to the Brazilian Independent
Foreign Policy (IFP), implemented in Brazil between 1961 and 1964. Analyzing some news
published in this journal and related to IFP, we identified some touchpoints between the
American government and the journal’s concerns, mainly through the ideological and
political actions of João Goulart’s government and the consequences of these actions in
the Cold War.
