In the current political landscape, anti-democratic movements are on the rise due to
intolerant rhetoric on social media, threatening democratic regimes. This article investigates
the relationship between the speeches of political leaders and violent acts, analyzing
attacks on public property in the United States (2021) and Brazil (2023) during government
transitions. The method used is a Case Study accompanied by an analysis of the political
leaders’ speeches. The main conclusions are that the speeches of political leaders on social
media are related to the mobilization of violent acts.
