This research analyses the reasons that drove Mozambique to
join the UNSC as a non-permanent member. The question which guided the study is: why only today would Mozambique aspire to join the UNSC as a nonpermanent
member? Using the qualitative and exploratory method and the paradigmatic
assumptions of the constructivist theory, it was concluded that the country seeks at the
UNSC to contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security, to promote its
image on the world stage, to gain sympathy with the five countries with permanent seats
in the body and to obtain economic, political and military aid in the fight against terrorism
and in the protection of its national borders.
