The State has been studied from many theoretical approaches, although it is not possible
to capture all the complexities involved in its formation. In the case of Mozambique, the
government that proclaimed independence inherited a complex political, economic and social
situation on June 25, 1975. The article aims to analyze the state-building in Mozambique
in historical perspective, considering the international dimension of the phenomena,
particularly from the period of post-independence, civil war and the political transitions.
The article draws on the Mozambican foreign policy and the role of international actors
in the country to grasp the international dimension.
