Abstract

The paper analyzes the characteristics of the UN peace operations in East Timor between 1999 and 2012, amidst the country’s independence, and situates such interventionist processes in the larger picture of peacekeeping changes conducted within the UN bureaucracy. Based on the assessment of documentary and bibliographic sources, the central argument is that the operational component of peace operations in East Timor reflected a series of transformations of peacekeeping attributes and principles, especially related to multidimensionality and the robustness of the mandates, as well as the integrated missions model.
